Among the sacraments in Christianity, there are two that you must remember: baptism and communion (the Lord’s Supper). In a church where the Holy Spirit dwells, the holy Word of God, which is the Word of revelation, begins to work and become active. An individual, family, or church that has not received the Holy Spirit is like a harbor with no lights.
We must participate in Communion, and furthermore, we must receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. If we do not receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we are just like a sick patient. We cannot be faithful before the Word of the Lord, or worship God wholeheartedly in spirit and in truth, or participate in the activities of the church. Everything we think about will be according to the flesh. Doing anything or making time will all seem like too much of a sacrifice.
Only by receiving the Holy Spirit can we become one in heart and spirit, glorifying God as though we were one world. It is not “you separate and me separate.” There is one God, one Jesus, one Holy Spirit, one Word, and one baptism of the Holy Spirit. We have received “one blessing,” so how could we become two, you separate and me separate?
Look at the “church in Jerusalem,” which was born after the Holy Spirit descended upon them following Jesus’ resurrection and ascension. They did everything together. They did not do it while watching one another’s reactions; they had all received the same Holy Spirit, and even without anyone having to tell them, the Holy Spirit had already made them one. Do it together! Together!
Acts 2:42–45 They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.
